Acceptance Tests in SpecFlow
When automating existing test scripts, it can be hard to create sensible automated tests out of them. Sensible meaning that, besides being robust and maintainable, pinpoint you to the right problem if it fails. In other words, it should be clear why a test fails. You shouldn’t have to spend a lot of time figuring out what is wrong.

Short summary
One of the reasons it’s hard is because the current tests are structured in a way that makes it hard to see what exactly is tested. They validate a certain area of an application, like a page, screen, or a certain component (e.g. the shopping cart if you have a webshop). In other words, they validate a subject.
Applications are all about behavior. An application does something. When you test the application, you test if the application behaves according to spec. When I hear: “We need to test this screen”, my first response is “You need to test this screen for which behavior?”. In other words: what is it the application does that you’re testing.
During this course, we use SpecFlow to define test cases based on the behavior of the application to make sure that you will not only understand how to use the tool, but will be able to grasp the principles behind this way of testing as well.

The learning objectives for Acceptance Tests in SpecFlow include an understanding of:
- Knowledge of converting functional specifications in SpecFlow feature files
- Knowledge on how to set up and maintain SpecFlow test automation
- Ability to manage and maintain the test environment

Target audience
- Developers or testers with knowledge of C# with Visual Studio.
- Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS etc. is required.
- Preferably with basic knowledge of writing unit tests with MSTest or NUnit.

After your registration has been confirmed, you are still able to change the date up to 20 days before the first day of the training. You are able to do this once. Please send your request to academy@devon.nl or call +31(0)15-24 11 900 for further assistance.
Two weeks before each training, we will check if we have enough participants for the training course to be valuable and continue. If this is not the case, we will inform you by e-mail, with options for a new date and location. After this notification, you will have the right to cancel or change your registration within 5 working days.
On the website you can choose to pay via iDeal, creditcard or by invoice with a payment period of 30 days.
Most of our courses are available in both English and Dutch. We have a selection of training courses which are only available in English, which will be on that training page. Our rule of thumb for courses in the Netherlands is – the course is in English unless everybody speaks Dutch, then the course is in Dutch. If you want to be sure you are in a Dutch course, please get in touch with academy@devon.nl in case the information on a specific date is not available on the course page.
Unless mentioned otherwise, the course fee includes the cost of training material, exam cost, the use of the location, catering and parking.
